Dario Pizzuto Task 2

The Babies Here
I woke up on the 2nd of January 2010 at around 6:00am, it had been a sleepless night as my parents had been in hospital for around two days. Because my mother was in labour, with my baby sister ‘Lara.’ Since both of my parents were in hospital I had to stay with my step mother and step brother. My brother (who was fourteen at the time) and I were both very eager to see the new arrival. Although we did not no when she would be born, we both had the strong feeling it would be that very day.

I threw on some jeans and an old shirt and went downstairs to eat breakfast. I quivered every bite through my toast, I didn’t bother much for a drink. I thought about how much this would change our lives, my life. For my whole life I had been the younger brother. It was all about to change, I felt strange. The last nine months had been exciting but I never knew what it would feel like to actually have her there. I wondered and wondered. It was like all my thoughts and emotions had been tossed into a blender to create some new kind of feeling, one I assure you I have never felt before. It’s like being numb in awe, scared yet perfectly tranquil, cold yet boiling with concern. All sorts of questions were swimming through my mind like ‘What will she look like?’ and ‘What colour hair will she have?’

We decided to go to for a drive, then I heard it, those words which I will never forget my whole life. My step mother turned to me and said “She’s here.” I lit up with joy and we made our way to the hospital. We waited for a while because my mother was quite exhausted from the whole ordeal. After a while my dad came out to give us the ‘okay.’ He led us through a series of turns until we arrived at a room. My dad opened the door for us and I saw her. I immediately wanted to pick her up and run away, but I resisted the urge to do so. She was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen in my entire life (besides myself).

She smiled at the welcoming crowd that surrounded her, she smiled in my mothers arms. She was so delicate and gentle, she grabbed hold of my finger. Her tiny fingers wrapped around my index finger, her nails no larger than half of the blunt end of a pencil. I felt warm and fuzzy inside. I thought about all the things that would need to change in our lives, but I couldn’t care less. She was the cutest thing I had ever set my eyes upon and my opinion on that will never change. So there you have it, a baby girl named Lara on the 2nd of January 2011. She had finally arrived, the little Lara.
GEMMA CREATIVE WRITING TASK 2

The soft sound of the whirring fan woke me up, sun streaming through the windows I knew it was a beautiful summers day.
“Perfect day for an adventure!” I said to myself, staring out the window across the ocean, towards the horizon.
I got dressed and ready for the day ahead then got on my bicycle and road down the path to my cousins’ house. As I assumed, their whole family was still asleep so I banged on the window of Bens room, then without hesitation opened it and climbed through. To my surprise, he was awake and in the kitchen making toast.
“Dude hurry up we HAVE to go now or we won’t have enough time” I urged, pushing him out of the house and onto our bikes.
“ Hey. I was making some food for us, gees” Ben told me.
With no time to waste, I rode past him, out the gate and down the dusty tracks through the bush then onto our secret path. He caught up to me and we rode together, dodging potholes and then finally up the final hill that would lead us down to our secret beach.
Over the summer holidays we had been staying on the tropical island we visit every year, but only on the 14th year of Ben and I visiting, we discovered this secret little beach. ‘Our beach’ as we called it was a tiny little strip of sand lasting about twenty meters long with rocks and rocky islands at each end. The rocky islands had a small family of seals living on it in a little cave. The beach we thought was the best snorkelling on the island, and we went out very far to a small reef off the shore.
Today, we brought an underwater camera because we always saw really cool things and wanted to take photos of them.

As we were swimming around, past one of the rocky islands, I saw a stingray! It wasn’t an ordinary stingray, it was a MASSIVE black creature with a 2 metre long tail. The spike on the end of the tail was also extremely large. I tapped Ben on the shoulder and pointed to it. He got a huge shock and started swimming really fast towards the shore with me following him very close behind. As soon as we got to the shallow water, we stood up and just stood there startled and then got out of the water and roe home as fast as we could to tell our families.

When we got home and told them none of them believed us! Until, that is we showed them the photos of our trip and in the background of one was the stingray! They were also very shocked. They all thought that that kind of creature was only found in other parts of the world! They all said that if its tail had speared us we would have dies right on the spot because it is the most poisonous stingray in the world!
It was so scary, but we keep going snorkelling there but this time we brought the whole family!

The Spider- Emma Styles

Task 1:

“Mum, do we have to go?” Noah and I chorused together in the back seat of our rusty old car.

“Yes you have to go into the cave and learn the history of it AND YOU WILL HAVE FUN!” She replied almost wanting to have a full day of peace and quiet with Dad while torturing us at the same time.

“Yes Mum.” We moaned.

So we slumped all the way to the cave entrance where we met the rest of our tour group of no more than 20, including the leader. We were told to head into this cave with our torches, helmets and well looked after knees. We had to crawl as the cave ceiling was no higher than 75 centimetres from the floor. Looking back on it now I can’t see how we did it - trying to hold a huge torch in one hand, struggling to keep balanced with the other, and making sure we didn’t lose sight of the person in front of us.

After about 20 minutes of following one another in near darkness we arrived at the exit. Light again! We were then told we had to do it again (NO!) but this time go through a secret passage way. We followed these instructions, keeping the moaning to a bare minimum, again trying to keep directly behind one another. As we arrived at the secret entrance we found a surprise waiting for us; a creepy, eight legged creature, as big as a tennis ball.

I

HATE

SPIDERS!

So I refused to move. But of course I had to move eventually as I had to escape this dark cave. The voices in front of us became softer and softer, so we had to do something, and do something quickly. Kill the spider, I know, but neither me nor my brother Noah behind me wanted to. One of us would have to as the other 8 or so behind us were becoming agitated.

“I’m a girl and you’re a boy so you should have to kill it!” I said, obviously excusing myself from the task.

“Well, you were the one just giving me the equality speech about males and females being equal before we entered this cave!” Noah replied, almost too quickly.

“Good come-back but I promise to tell everyone in the group how awesome you are if you kill it!” I proclaimed.

Without another word he took off his helmet and whammed it hard onto Mr 8 Legs causing cold liquid to fly out onto Noah’s eye and my arm. Boy, was that a shock!!! At least we knew he had killed it because when we shone the light at the area of the ceiling it once sat all we could see were three hairy legs and half a body. So we crawled and crawled and finally found our leader and the rest of the group.

Noah thought he might receive super spider powers from the liquid but that’s another story for another time.

Ben Shvarts Task 1

The beginning of high school
People say the first weeks of high school can be really different and intense. My first two weeks of school were different and intense but brought positive change to my life. The new routine children, new teacher’s and classrooms were very exhilarating for me. When I first walked into the gates I knew my time here at Reddam Would be and adventure.
As I stood in the yard with my cousin Nora and other Bellevue Hill friends, I saw my mother starting to tear. Once she left, we had to follow our teachers inside. The teachers took our group a side and discussed the rules. We were told how to read the time table and which classes we would be in for the year. We had a brief look at our schedules and went straight to class. My First class was science.
Then after the entire whole school introduction it was home time and within that time from 8:50 till 3:30 I made at least twenty friends. Which were all nice boys and girls then as soon my mum was approaching the school I saw her face and she was still tearing and she asked me at least seven thousand question of my first day at a High school.

On my second day of school we had the swimming carnival it was a fun day with lots of excitement we had events like freestyle which I came third in and other fun events like the participation event and the relay. Also the teacher’s had their own event. Then after all that we got back at 3:00 and I was exhausted and relived that the day had ended. Then we had to go the teachers for them to dismiss us.
Day 3 camp it was early in the morning when I had to wake up let’s say like 6:30 in the morning to get there on time. I had to eat breakfast really early and my mum kept telling me to hurry and finish your breakfast so you don’t be late for the bus taking us to the scout camp.
Then when I arrived there I got there at 8:00 and departure time was at 8:45. So during that time I was playing with friends touch footy for about 30 minutes then after that we had roll call. Then straight after that we had to find partners on the bus then we left straight for the camp.
Then when we arrived there the bus stopped and our camp instructor got in the bus and told the children in the bus what do before going in your cabins. So we had to go to the meeting place in the wood area and settle our bags there. After that we went to the kitchen to have a snack then after that we went straight to activities. Later in the day, after my group finished the activities we got our cabin number and went straight to them.
Day 4, we left our cabins which my friends Jonathan, Sam and Jordan we went to the dining area and straight after that my group went straight to the activities such as caving, obstacle course and big swing.
Day 5 the same routine but the only thing is it was leaving day so before anything we had to pack our bags and put them outside our cabins then we got I our groups again and our final activity was the mystery hunt which was really fun and challenging.

Three hours later we had to get on the bus and leave the camp site and return home to Reddam were each and one of our parents were waiting for us to arrive.
So that’s how the beginning of high school was for me.

Task 2 Julian Michelsen

The City to Surf

I was in my mum's car, driving to Centennial Park. Every Sunday my mum and I would go to Centennial Park to run. At the park we would usually do either intervals, or run around the park once, (5 km). On the way to the park my mum was going on about how she had to train for the City to Surf, a 14 km race that went on every year. After I'd heard that, I asked a question to my mum, "do you think I could participate in it?" I asked. And my mum must reply was. "If you train hard enough and if you want to, then yeah I guess so." I was bursting with joy, THE CITY  TO  SURF!!!, I had been wanting to do it from when I could watch it on TV.  And then the training began. I trained much harder from then on, trying my best at everything. I often trained with my friend Tiryon who was also doing the race. The city to Surf is the biggest race in the world with over 80,000 people competing. The race altogether is 14 km and the record time for running it is 40.03 min.

It was the week before 14th August, the day of the race. In those few days I practically ate just pasta, pasta and more pasta. My mum said that it would give me energy for the day of the race.

Finally the day of the race came, I was so excited (and energetic from the pasta ) that I could barely contain it. We met at Tiryon's house and put on some warm clothes that we could take off and throw away just before the race started. We drove there in Tiryon's car. When we got there I could not believe my eyes, there were so many people! All of them wearing disposable clothes. Just before nine o'clock everyone was taking the disposable clothes off into their running clothes. My mum had already started running because she was in a different division than Tiryon and I. And then it was our turn, we started jogging at a generous pace. I thought some parts of the race were difficult because they were hilly, actually, practically the whole race had hills and slopes. We were just about to cross the end of the race when Tiryon's mum said that we should give one last push into it, and we did. We ran with newfound strength through the gates. After the race was over we both got our medals and sat on the beach to eat some chips. I found out that my time was one hour and 45 min and 30 seconds. I got a picture of me running.

I thought it was a very exciting event and a day not to be forgotten. The next day both my legs were very tired and that day I did practically nothing sports wise. I did not think I will forget it in my life, because it was such a great experience.

Josh Broyda (task 2)

 The Fish and the Dog
It was a day which I would never forget, a day when one good friend died and a new friendship was born. The morning began like any other, I brushed my teeth, got ready for school and began to feed my goldfish. It was the fattest goldfish I had ever owned, it had big blue eyes and was so big it rarely swam but I still loved it. I had owned this goldfish for many years and it was there for me in good times and bad. As I fed it, I watched it eat the flakes I poured into its tank, however today something was different, it seemed less able to eat then usual. However I had no time to worry, and as my mum screamed for me to leave the house, I ran out of my room leaving my goldfish behind.

After a long and tiring day of school, I came back home ready to play my X-Box. However as I entered my room, a shocking sight caught my eye. The goldfish tank was missing my goldfish. As I looked all over my room, I began to panic as it was no-where to be found. Then I glanced at the tank again and noticed at the bottom lay the remains of my goldfish. I yelled loudly for my mum to come in and when she arrived, she explained that my goldfish had exploded because I had over-fed it this morning. I decided at that point, to bury the fish in my backyard, and with tears rolling down my face, I took the bowl out of my room.

After I buried what was left of my goldfish, I returned back into the house, feeling sad and lonely. I quickly walked back to my room, where I begun sobbing into my pillow. As I continued to cry, my mother suddenly entered. She asked me whether I wanted a new goldfish, and I replied that I had always wanted to get a dog. After some argument, I finally convinced her that it was time for me to get a new pet, one that would not explode if I overfed it.

After a short drive to the nearest pet store, I begun to feel much happier, I had forgotten all about my goldfish and now only cared about getting a new friend. As soon as I entered the shop, I saw the dog I wanted to get. He had black and white fur, with floppy ears and black and blue eyes. I knew this was the friend I had always wanted. As I pointed him to my mother, a huge smile appeared on her face and immediately she fell in love with him. This was a day I could never forget, where an unfortunate explosion led me to getting the dog of my dreams.

An Autobiography By Mason Kemeny

My parents, Tamira Kemeny and Robert Kemeny were married on Sunday 19th June 1994.
Less than four years later on 6th April 1998 at 9.05am my mother brought me into this world with the help of Dr Steven Horrowitz at the Randwick Women’s Hospital.

At the time my father, Robert was 28 years old and studying part time at the University of Technology in Sydney. My mother, Tamira was 26 years old when I was born and was working as a book keeper.

One of my first memories of school or pre-school was of the pre-school I went to on Old South Head Road in Rose Bay, just down from the petrol station. On my first day in 2003 I can remember walking into a room full of friendly faces and meeting a lot of people who I became friends with during the course of that year. Some are still my friends to this day. It was a really fun packed year and a year with lots of memories that I will remember for many, many years to come. During the last few months of 2003, I remember travelling to different primary schools around the area to get a feel for what they would be like for me for the following year. The first one we looked at was Moriah, but I didn’t think that was where I would be. After a few other visits at other schools we finally found the school that seemed to be a perfect fit for me. That school was Reddam House.

It seemed to me like I was walking into a castle, but not any ordinary castle, this seemed like the greatest castle on earth. The school grounds seemed grand and mysterious all at the same time.

The year I first started year K was 2004. I was put into KE and my teacher was Ms Mache. In my classroom I met all of my new classmates. The first classmate and friend I made was Michael Grant. He was nice and friendly and we played together during the course of the day. It was nice to have a friendly face to talk to at recess and lunchtime.
During the course of that week I met other people and had tried to remember all their names, as well as trying to remember all the names of the new teachers. It really was tricky trying to put all those new names to the new faces.

It took a while to learn the ropes of this new school and how everything ran at Reddam House, but I soon got the hang of it all and by the middle of the year, I felt like I had been there for years.

The years rolled by and before I knew it, I was in year 3 and wearing my own school blazer once a week to assembly. Just like all the other big kids I had seen wear it week after week for all those years. I couldn’t believe it was finally my turn. I was lucky enough to have Mr David Freeman as my year 3 teacher. He taught me many, many important and fun things, especially how to be more independent.

Fast forward to the year 2011 and I have just entered year 7 at Reddam House. Where has the time gone? How have those years just flown by? I now understand when my parents and their friends tell me, I remember when….. and how quickly the years can go by.
I feel like it was just yesterday when I was sitting in Ms Mache’s class with her standing up the front of the classroom, instructing us in all the Reddam rules on that very first day of year K, now its Mr Garrett’s turn to stand in front of me and tell me what to expect from year 7 and the next 6 years of school. I have reached the half way mark of my school education.
2011 is a real milestone year, not only for me, but for my brother and sister too. My brother started year 5 this year, and my sister started year K, in fact she is also in KE just like I was.
I know we all have many more milestones ahead of us, and I am looking forward to writing about the next 13 years of my life, when I will be 26.
