Gabi Karney First Post

                                                 1ST Task CAMP
It was a quite a warm last day at camp. Everyone had just got to know each other. With the lack of sleep we had gotten that night our activity would have to be something exciting. It definitely was exciting.  We arrived out our second activity of the day, The Giant Swing.
The moment our group arrived at the swing you could feel the excitement and fear. Our group leader Dan sat us all down. Earlier that day we had decided that the girls would go first. So up we went to get our harnesses.  1st, 2nd, 3rd and so on. Once the harnesses were all taken we were taken to the giant swing. Before our eyes was a swing about 20 meters high that we would swing from. From the previous groups we all knew what to do. Once we were pulled to the top we were told to pull this small blue rope and yank.
I remember our instructor Dan saying “it’s not scary don’t worry”.                                                                                                   He was very wrong. By watching the people’s faces as they suddenly drop from 20 meters high was hysterical but scary. As much as I wanted to swing from twenty meters high I was pretty scared.
By the time it was my turn, I remember everyone screaming   Gabi you can do it, don’t hold on.”
I really thought I wouldn’t be scared and that it would be absolutely fine. I was wrong; by far I was the most scared in my group. I finally reached the top and pulled the small blue rope. I waited and waited and made sure I thought it wouldn’t be too bad. Then suddenly… “Swiiiiisssssshhhhhh!”
Down I went it felt like I was going a million times an hour. Everyone else had screamed but I think I had left my voice was up in the air. I tried letting go of the big rope, but again I think I had left my hands up there too. I clutched onto the rope with my life.  Swinging up and down, my body moving like a puppet, up and down.
I finally was able to let go of the rope and swing freely in the air. It was an amazing feeling that didn’t last very long. It felt like I had been flying, besides the rope marks on my hand it was great. As I was unharnessed you could see I was shaking. I had loved it.
It was now everyone else’s turn. One by one each person in our group had a turn swinging from the giant swing. The rest of the group would all stand in a line holding another rope and pull the person up to the top.
It had become boiling! And we were standing right in the middle of the sun. We could hear other groups on the flying fox screaming. As the time flew by we knew the camp would soon be over. It was an amazing camp and saying goodbye wouldn’t be fun.
I then volunteered to help Dan with the swing. I would grab the ladder and bring it to Dan, then take the ladder away, then get a rope give it to Dan to tie to the person. After the person had stopped swinging I would fetch the rope and tie it up and then get the ladder again. This was definitely more entertaining than pulling a rope.
It was nearly over but one more person wanted to go on the Giant Swing. Mr. Garrett with his video camera decided he was going to have a turn. Everyone helped pulling him up and finally he had a turn videoing it. Then we were finished, it was one great activity that I will never forget! J

Well done Gabi! This is an engaging and lively account of your camp experiences. Like Dahl, you have focused on the most memorable experiences. Your description of the swing is great, with an effective simile and good use of repetition. Include more detailed descriptions elsewhere to improve this response.

Well written in terms of grammar and expression on the whole.

A well structured recount with a clear progression. Well handled!
