 TASK 1
CAMP 2011    by Shivona Chandiramani J
Second day at camp and I was already loving it! We made new friends and got along really well. Although we slept very late the night before, we managed to get up early and get dresses and go to breakfast on time.
We arrived at our first activity on that day, The Flying Fox!

We had overheard the other groups who had already done the flying fox before saying, the flying fox is boring even though it is really high and scary. And I had already been on it before and knew exactly how it felt, so it was nothing special to me but for other people it was quite extraordinary because they had never seen something like this before. Anyway we had to choose a partner to race with and so I chose Hannah Rubinstein. So we got our harnesses on and climbed up the stairs to get up to the ‘Flying Fox’. Dan attached us to the cable and Hannah was feeling so scared so then Dan counted us down quickly 3, 2, 1 jump off!! And so we jumped but it wasn’t that much fun I have to seriously admit, I didn’t enjoy that activity at all.

Next we arrived at our second activity The Giant Swing.

Our group was so excited because we had been waiting for this the whole time. So we grabbed our harnesses and put it on but the activity earlier, we decided that I would go first! I was so elated to be 1st. Then Dan our instructor called me up and said “Shivona come here and stand on the ladder.” And although I had done this before in year 5 at my other school, I still nervously walked up to this 20 meters high swing, now I know why they call this the ‘GIANT Swing!’ My group pulled me up to the very top. Then they counted me down 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1, pull the rope! I pulled it and my face suddenly dropped.

As soon as Dan unharnessed me everyone was asking me questions like, How was it? Was it scary? I replied “Well in the start when your pulling the rope it’s scary but once you pull it you have the most amazing feeling in the world and that you would never want to get of it.”

Now that my turn was over it was everyone else’s go to have a go at it. One by one we were each having goes with the group helping standing in a line all holding a long red/orange rope

Once we got through everyone we all wanted a second go but we had run out of time and unfortunately didn’t get second go and as we all thought it was over it was not. Mr. Garrett had a go at it and went right to the top, with his video camera to record EVERYTHING.

And so in that humid temperature of about 40° Celsius we had to pull Mr. Garrett up and so we all tried our best to pull him up and get him to the top.

Finally we all walked back to the cave house where there were some nice refreshments we could all have! We all needed this after a long, sweaty, tiring, breathtaking day, although it felt good! HAHA

This activity was the BEST out of the lot and will always be a memory that I will never ever forget ♥

Well done Shivona! A well written recount exploring some of the more memorable moments at camp. Include more detailed descriptive passages to help bring this to life.

Stick to the past tense if you begin your recount this way. Do not change to the present mid sentence. Watch your repetition of "so" as this makes your writing sound a little clumsy at times.

A well structured recount overall. Well done.
